2022 福虎賀年卡設計 New Year Postcard Design

In 2021, while we were still surrounded by the anxiety and uncertainty of the pandemic, the year 2022 suddenly arrived — ushering in the Lunar New Year of the Tiger, a zodiac sign full of rich symbolism.
The tiger, as a concrete animal image, represents strength, power and authority. In the ancient myth of the Four Divine Beasts, the White Tiger occupies one of the four directions and symbolises divine wisdom and virtue. In religious and cultural traditions, it is described as the “king of all animals, able to suppress evil and devour demons,” which means that it has the power to ward off negativity and bring blessings. In Taiwanese folk belief, the deity Hǔ Yé (Tiger Lord) combines all these qualities perfectly.

Therefore, in the spirit of sweeping away the old, welcoming renewal and praying for the end of the pandemic, I chose to counter the social tension and sense of fatigue by illustrating a friendlier, playful tiger.
Using auspicious red (to drive away misfortune and welcome good luck) together with yellow (symbol of prosperity and blessings) as the main colour palette, the image shows a tiger in a hide-and-seek posture — almost as if it is playfully peeking out from behind the gloom.

Through this visual, I hope that in the new year, even under the shadow of the pandemic, we can still keep a child-like heart and reach out once again to connect and interact with the world.

2021年當我們還籠罩在疫情下的焦慮與不安，2022年轉瞬即到，象徵著「虎」年的生肖新年，其背後本身帶有許多象徵。虎，在具象的動物樣貌上表示著力量、強壯與權威，在四方神獸故事裡又表示佔有一方具有神性富含智慧與美德的白虎，而在文化宗教下牠又被描述成「百獸之長，能執博挫銳，噬食鬼魅」，即表示牠具有驅邪與祝福的能力，以台灣的宗教來看有虎爺一神祈也剛剛地好把上面這些特質都囊括在一起了。

因此，在除舊佈新與祈福世界疫情好轉的意義下，和為減去社會緊張焦慮的嚴肅與厭世感，以插畫繪製較親人可愛的老虎形象，並以大喜驅凶避吉的紅與象徵祥瑞福氣的黃作為主色調，搭配出畫面中似乎在玩躲貓貓的老虎俏皮形象，希望能夠在新的一年我們都能在疫情陰鬱底下仍保有赤子之心探出頭來與社會對話或互動。
